There’s a lot of things about being an adult that nobody ever prepares you for. Things like navigating taxes, having your digestive system turn traitor on you, or somehow having a very strong set of opinions about your favorite spatula. Well, we can add “number of towels” to that list, because if this Twitter thread is any indication, nobody seems to know what the appropriate number actually is!
It all began when Twitter user Abdul (@Advil) and his girlfriend asked themselves that very question and, coming up stumped, decided to put it out to the internet.

Well, it turns out that their confusion wasn’t anything to be ashamed of, because just about all of Twitter weighed in and the final answer was basically somewhere between 1-100 towels.

Heck, even Target decided to weigh in real quick – because whatever amount of towels you settle on, you can probably get them at a decent price there:

Sadly, it seems there’s no single formula to figure out the appropriate number of towels a self-respecting adult should own. It’s kind of all down to how much cabinet space you have, plus how often you like to switch out towels, plus how often you actually do laundry.
Still, I’d say any adult human should probably own at least two – so that you always have a spare when you wash the other one.
