We all had a mix of good, bad, and okay teachers growing up. The ones who allowed us to be creative or engaged us in off-topic conversations are likely the ones who made the most impact. But sometimes teachers go much further than that.
Here are eight teachers who went out of their way to make their students feel special, safe, and loved.
1. This teacher donated a kidney to a student
Jen Sculley is a Denver high school physical education teacher. She was moved to donate a kidney to a student who shared her name with a beloved aunt Sculley had lost to cancer. The student was spending hours every night undergoing dialysis rather than enjoying life. Sculley took a month off from teaching and donated the kidney.
2. This professor told her student to bring her child if her childcare plans fall through
Morgan King’s childcare plans fell through, so she missed one of her classes. She emailed her professor to let her know. Her professor emailed back, saying that the absence was excused, she could make up the work, and that next time she should feel free to bring her child.
“I work for the Department of CHILD and FAMILY Studies—so how terrible would it be, if I was unwilling to have a child visit our class? I’m very serious with this offer,” she wrote.
Told my professor I missed class yesterday bc I couldn't find childcare & this was her response. I'm literally crying. So blessed/thankful😩😭 pic.twitter.com/3QaThJRXdo

3. This lecturer has a unique approach to grading papers
It can be a bit of a nail-biter when teachers are grading papers. This lecturer didn’t want his students to worry, so he found a fun way to hide his expression:

4. This teacher has a sensible homework policy
Homework is controversial – at its worst, it’s busy work that doesn’t teach students anything other than how to hate school. This teacher decided to institute a homework policy that makes sense:
5. This teacher got the same hairstyle as her student
When this teacher complimented one of her young students on her hairstyle, the little girl didn’t seem to believe her. So to show her she was serious, she got an identical hairstyle that night. The look on the little girl’s face is priceless:
This teacher, Ms. Bishop from Lakeview Elementary in Sugarland, Tx complimented one of her student’s hair saying she loved it, but the little girl didn’t believe her. The next day, the teacher came to school with her hair done the same as her student so cute! pic.twitter.com/jdVc3eDIDq

6. This teacher has another fun approach to homework
If you must assign homework, at least make it fun! This teacher promised her students she would teach in a chicken suit if all the students turned in their homework.
She ended up wearing it twice in one week.
7. This teacher is educating her students about consent
Third-grade teacher Liz Kleinrock regularly teaches her students about social issues. One of her most impactful lessons was on consent. She used age-appropriate language and collaborated with her students to create this chart, which everyone should follow:

8. This professor doesn’t just tell his student to study; he studies with them
This professor went above and beyond. Instead of just answering emails, he went to the library and worked with the student at 11 p.m.
Sometimes ya just gotta appreciate professors who do everything possible to help you succeed 🙌🏻 pic.twitter.com/lRNaN6mNLp
