I’m a pretty open-minded guy. And yet, there are trends of things that people consider to be “hot” that make me stop and reevaluate my opinions.
Turns out I’m not alone in that. There are plenty of folks on Reddit for which the conventional is a huge turn-off.
What is something a lot of people find attractive that is actually a turn off for you?
by inAskReddit
Let’s look at some examples.
1. The “perfect” eyebrows
Yea I get no one likes a monobrow even on guys but a girl I know looks like she’s 2 Nike logos and it’s all I can see.
I’m bad for not looking people in the eye but with her I must look real attentive
– SnooCapers9313
2. A big d**k
It’s intimidating and all I can think is “ow.”
Anything over 6 inches length wise and like a teenager’s hitchhiking thumb size width wise ?is too big for me personally. 4-6 length is perfect. Even under that is fine as long as it has the agility of a ravenous snake.
– sheepsclothingiswool
3. The anime voice
Idfk when this became a thing, but in the past few years, a lot of these chicks moan in a high pitched “”anime”” voice that sounds nothing Close to their actual voice. It’s not cute, it’s f**king cringe. Stop it.
Stop exaggerating it, too. If you moan & like it, that’s cool. But don’t make it apparently obvious that you’re just screaming “OOOHHH F**K~ YEAHH~ Harder~~” like you think it’s actually sexy… it’s not.
– -BadDecisions
4. Fake tans
it’s foul, s**t stains around the wrists, neck and fingers.
It’s awful to spend so much time showering and getting ready to look dirty by the end.
Don’t get me wrong, all skin tones are beautiful but fake tan make people who wear it look like they’ve messed the bed.
– chillypyo
5. “Daddy”
I have “World’s Greatest Daddy” on a travel mug, along with my 3 kids’ names.
A coworker said that seemed weird….I told him “if the term ‘daddy’ has sexual associations for you, the problem is in YOUR head.”
– ZoDeFoo
6. Smiling big
Smiling with full teeth showing..
It’s weird to me that many people have such an emphasis on them being perfectly white and straight too while I just find it really creepy and unnatural looking like an uncanny valley feeling.
– PremiumDouche
7. Buttholes
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met that say they like buttholes but cannot explain why.
If there’s a chick showing her goods on reddit, and she spreads the cheeks to show that butthole, I keep scrolling.
Meanwhile if a girl simply shows her t**s, the comments are filled with people asking to see her butthole. I will never get it.
– DorrajD
8. Cosmetic surgeries
People get pissy when I suggest Paul Rudd has had work done.
Guy has had more botox, chemical peels and treatments than can be counted to stay looking like he does. He just has is done well, done in small increments so no sudden changes and done often so he stays looking fresh.
I would suggest at a a high enough disposable income point and up it would be hard to find a man or woman who hasn’t had some work done, even if it’s just an injectable, something to make their hair grow, eyebrows shaped.
I think most people below that income point don’t understand just what is available.

9. The acoustic guitar bro
Reminds me of this time that I was at a guy friend’s house and he put this Dave Matthews’ song Say Goodbye on repeat.
After the tenth time hearing “tomorrow go back to being friends…but tonight let’s be lovers…tangled tongues and lips…” it was enough to permanently ruin that song for me. ???
I should have run away screaming then, but that was the last time we hung out.
– SweaterSwater
10. Big brand names on everything
I never understood why people kill for those louis vuitton handbags.
It’s a d**n piece of brown leather with the same logo just slapped around it and they look horrible.
– LordJambrek
11. Lap dances
One or two past girlfriends took it upon themselves to give me a lap dance, and it just feels silly and awkward being on the receiving end.
– Llama_Mia
12. Machismo
I do not want you to get mad in my defense over little things. I also do not want to see you punch a wall in your rage. I will actually end up worrying that you are going to pick a dumb fight or break something over a stupid thing. Your rage makes me nervous even if it’s not directed at me. It’s not a turn on.
Like sure, if someone is actually trying to hurt me or creep on me, I don’t mind a guy stepping in to help. But it should be a last resort. I much prefer a man who wants to just leave or de-escalate a situation as calmly as possible.
– lillyrose2489
13. Possessiveness
“Talk to my woman/man, you’ll have me to mess with” is so unattractive me-
feels like the person sees their partner as an object in their life that they need to defend, not a full a** human who they can trust.
– bobagret
14. Playing dumb
Girls who act stupid in order to be perceived as damsels in distress.
It’s very unattractive to me especially if I know the girl is smart and competent to take care of herself.
– Vladimir909
15. Toxic positivity
that’s a HARD NO from me – there’s clearly something wrong with you if you don’t know how to have a full range of emotions.
Especially in today’s dystopian nightmare.
– theborderlineartist
16. That guy from the quad
Dudes who always play their acoustic guitar and sing.
Once in a while is fine but not all the time.
Anyway, here’s Wonderwall.
– jkw91
17. Big dumb machismo
On my first date with my now boyfriend, we were in a drive through to get drinks and these crackheads in front of us got out and started yelling saying we were staring at them (we weren’t) and instead of getting all aggressive back, my bf calmly told them to just get back in their car and completely de-escalated the situation.
I told him months later that the situation was something that made me like him even more, and really showed his character.
He was shocked, he thought I would’ve wanted him to fight them or something, but he doesn’t like to fight unless it’s totally necessary.
– KingLime26
18. Rich-bragging
When guys show how much money they have- expensive cars, clothes, jewelry, carrying a lot of cash, hustle culture.
I just don’t like people who are so obsessed with wealth and money and showing it off.
– ashteatime
19. That certain kind of “outspoken”
Men or women who use the line “I’m not afraid to speak my mind,” or “I’m opinionated.”
You’re not a bold confident person…you’re an a**hole.
Plenty of stuff I don’t say in my head because it’s inappropriate or mean.
– NaughtyFox360
20. Bad boys
The “bad boy” thing. I don’t get it.
Why do people think a troublemaker is sexy?
It somehow ties into the social media love for felons, which is also gross.
– Detronyx
21. Lip injections
Somehow it makes them look like Homer Simpson.
Does more above the upper lip than making actual fuller lips.
– czeka17
22. Being in the military
I truly appreciate the service but I’m not someone who could handle the stress of being away from my partner for significant amounts of time, constantly.
– ja_millionaire
23. Playing hard to get
If I have to work that hard to get you, you are either not interested enough, being deliberately awkward, or you like to control people.
– Scallywagstv2
24. Thick fake eyelashes
If the fake lashes looks natural or a little enhanced, that’s fine, but women seem to be taking it to an extreme level now with these super thick long lashes that are very obviously not real and IMO take away from the person’s face.
– ArtsySAHM
25. Super muscular men
don’t get me wrong, muscle definition when they are unintentionally flexing is super hot.
But abs are just a no from me, i would rather he have a bit of padding, guys that have a bit of chub will always get my number before a bodybuilder does
– No-Illustrator-6462
26. Implants in general
Breast, butt, lip, cheek, chin, pec, bicep, calf … anything that has been “improved”. I’d prefer a half handful to five handfuls of man-made any day of the week.
I know it’s the artificiality that turns me off, but I also suspect that it’s the superficial/fickle mindset behind the person as well.
*The reason I suspect that this is the case is because I have no problem being attracted to people who have had surgery to replace what they have lost due to illness or accident.
It’s a very difficult thing to explain logically.
– Teflonicus
27. Baby talk
My brother still lives at home, and his partner is over quite frequently.
They ONLY talk in the baby voice.
Nothing in the world gets me more p**sed off than having to listen to 2 grown adults baby talk and giggle and make exaggerated kissy noises for hours, especially when I’m trying to sleep.
– mhnbwr
28. Always showing off wealth
I don’t have a problem with what people spend their money on, if designer things make them happy then have at it. And there does come a certain point where you can’t hide wealth, whether that’s cars, homes, travel, most people’s lifestyle changes the more they earn.
My problem is when people don’t stay humble and they think wealth makes them better than someone else. It doesn’t.
– _Justag1rl_
29. Possessiveness
Oh I’m sorry your relationship is so f**king fragile and your partner is so f**king over you that a polite chat is somehow a threat upon your very person.
Gtfo of here, what are you doing with your life.
This behavior is literally only acceptable if someone is stalking your partner and the police are being incompetent – even the get your f**king partners permission first because stalkers can be dangerous esp if confronted.
– Apidium
30. Muppet lashes
Most fascinating thing. I was mocked in school for having extremely long, thick lashes, spider-eye they would call me.
Now they’re running to salons trying to get that very thing done for a lot of money.
I once had a dude in a club try to rip off my “fake” lashes, he was so p**sed at “fake everything”, he felt he needed to “teach me a lesson”.
He made my lid pop off my eye socket with an audible smack.
– b**chachayerbatera
Well that’s all interesting and…horrifying.
