Former NBA star Dwayne Wade may be retired from basketball, but he’s still a public figure and therefore, you know social media trolls are going to come out of the woodwork and criticize him and other famous people about pretty much everything.
Wade’s wife, actress Gabrielle Union, posted a photo of their family on Instagram for Thanksgiving and people immediately commented about how their son, 12-year-old Zion, is wearing fake nails and a crop top in the photo.

Some of the comments included:
“Why does his son have his nails done and dressed like a girl?”
“Nails done and crop top. Where is this child’s biological mother?”

Dwayne Wade first responded and said, “As a parent my only goal is that my kids feel that [I] see them, love them and support them.”

Wade then responded to the feedback in a longer tweet and said, I’ve seen some post-thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is apart of this world we live in—so i get it. But here’s the thing—I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile! ✌?”

People then hailed Wade’s tweets in defense of his son, Zion.
“Shout out D. Wade for setting the example of a Black father loving and accepting their children as they are. There’d be a lot less trauma in our community if more Black dads were like this.”
“In our community, being given autonomy over your body, beliefs, image, & statements as a child isn’t a thing. That child is free & happy.”
