Traveling with a pet can be tricky sometimes, and it’s important to find a pet-friendly hotel. But what if you could adopt a dog at the hotel where you’re staying?
An extended-stay hotel in Mississippi will let you foster a dog during your stay, then adopt the dog when you check out.
The Home 2 Suites in Biloxi partners with the Humane Society of South Mississippi in Gulfport for the heartwarming program, called “Fostering Hope.” Guests encounter adoptable dogs in kennels when they walk into the lobby. They can foster the dog in their room, then choose to adopt when they leave. If it’s love at first sight, they can even adopt right away.
An extended-stay hotel is a perfect place for such a program, since guests typically stay for long enough to actually bond with the pups. It was the brainchild of hotel sales director Teresa Johnston.
“They have a lot of transient guests who stay for months at a time near our army and navy bases and that’s just enough time to fall in love with a dog,” Bianca Janik, the shelter’s relations manager, told USA Today. “Teresa thought they needed to set their hotel apart and this was it. She wanted to have the business more involved with the community. It was a very out-of-the-box way to find our animals new homes so we were on board.”
Fostering Hope was enacted in October 2018. So far, 33 guests have gone home with new furry friends!
What a great idea! But those are just our thoughts… what are yours?
