Looking for a kitten to rescue?

If you are near Halifax, Nova Scotia, you have another option besides the local animal shelter.

Owners of Otis & Clementine’s Books and Coffee have combined a few of life’s coziest components into one concept. Along with books to buy, they also offer kittens you can adopt—all while you sip coffee.

The store always has a few kittens playing and napping in amongst the books.

Pick out an interesting volume and coax a kitten into your lap to pet while you read. If you fall in love, you can take your new little buddy home.

One of the store’s owners, Ellen Helmketold Narcity, the kittens, and sometimes a mother cat, come from the South Paw Conservation Nova Scotia rescue group.

She advises people act fast if they see a potential fur baby as they tend to get adopted quickly.

The adoption is handled by the rescue group.

Customers who decide to adopt fill out an application and must provide references. They also pay a fee to cover care and medical costs.

More than 30 cats have been adopted since the program was started in 2019 when Helmke realized she had the perfect space to bring in the kittens to find forever homes.

She has a 100 percent adoption rate and says the program makes her and the community happy.

We’re happy just knowing there’s a place where people who love books can play with and adopt kittens. Sounds like paradise!

What do you think? Would you pick up a good kitteh from this bookstore?
