Kathy Jacobs’ success is proof positive that you’re never too old to have a dream.

The 56-year-old has made it to the finals of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model search competition.

The Calabasas, California woman is using her newfound fame to highlight ageism in the industry and hopes she can make a change by helping people expand their views on beauty.

Jacobs was a petite (5’3″) model represented by the Ford Agency in the 1980s, but had given up on fame to raise a family. Married for 25 years with a daughter in medical school, she was working at a Drybar when she decided to give modeling one last go.

As soon as she made that decision, she started getting jobs again.

She’s recently modeled for Soji Health, BeautyBlender, and has appeared in Green Day and Miley Cyrus music videos.

After her Sports Illustrated photos went viral, fans have been clamoring for her workout and diet secrets. Jacobs, who was pre-diabetic, says she switched to a mostly plant-based, high protein diet (she does have fish a couple of times a week) and works out four times a week to the videos posted on Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Instagram’s live TV.

Of her second chance at modeling success, she says, “It’s kind of impractical to tell someone, [a] man or woman over 50 that they should just ride off into the sunset… I’m so out that I’m in, and I want to show that you can be whatever you are, and still be a star. Old is gold.”
