All men know how important a great barber is. Perhaps this 8-year-old girl from Philadelphia could be your next choice?

Neijae Graham-Henries may only be 8 years old, but she’s been cutting hair since 2018. She attended the Junior Barber Academy, a six-week training program led by master barber Prentice Michael Boone. The academy is for teens and adults, but Neijae attended anyway. She was the youngest participant, as well as the only girl.

Neijae heard about the course from her mom, who had encouraged her son to enroll. He wasn’t interested – but Neijae was.

“I realized I wanted to become a barber,” Neijae told BuzzFeed.

“She said, ‘Mom, I can do it. It looks like it would be fun. Let’s give it a try,'” mom Jaime recalled. “I told her, ‘There probably won’t be any girls in the class.’ She said, ‘Mom, that’s OK. I can do it.'”

Now that Neijae is a trained barber, she volunteers her services to homeless veterans and other people in her community. She really enjoys giving out free haircuts.

“I like helping people to look their best. It makes them feel good,” Neijae explained.

Meanwhile, Jaime says she’ll continue to nurture Neijae’s interest and help her develop her skills. Eventually, she’ll be old enough to make a real career out of this.

“As long as she’s happy, we are happy,” Jaime said.
