Believe it or not, using vinegar when you do your laundry has a lot of benefits.

Let’s take a look at three reasons why you should use white vinegar when it’s time to wash your clothes, towels, and sheets.

1. Gets rid of odors.

Vinegar takes care of the bacteria that build up on clothing, towels, and sheets like sweat and mildew.

Add two cups of distilled vinegar to the hot water you wash your towels in to get rid of mildew.

Add a half-cup to help fight the funky smells that stick to your clothing. If your clothes are smelling particularly bad, you can let them soak in cold water and one cup of vinegar for 20 minutes before you run them through a regular washing cycle.

2. Fights lint and static.

Pet owners will love this one.

Include a half-cup of vinegar into your washer to help your clothing fight lint, static, and that pesky pet hair that never seems to go away.

3. Helps with stains.

White vinegar can give your stain-fighting efforts a big boost. Spray undiluted vinegar onto stains and let it sit on your clothes for 10 to 15 minutes before you put them into the washing machine.

You can also soak clothes with mild stains in one cup of vinegar and two cups of warm water.

For big stains, combine a tablespoon of baking soda and vinegar to make a paste and apply the paste to the stain.
