Germany’s Reimann family is the second wealthiest family in the country. They own have a controlling interest in several companies including Krispy Kreme, Panera Bread, Pret a Manger and more.

Not long ago, the Bild, a German newspaper, reported that Reimann family members were Nazi supporters who used Russian civilians and French POWs as forced labor. This prompted an internal investigation by the company, which confirmed the newspaper’s findings.

According to the Associated Press, the family felt deeply ashamed of the crimes that were committed. They have announced that they will be donating more than $11 million to charity, and, once the internal report is finalized, they will release it to the public.

Although the family has a dark past, they are doing the what they can to make amends by bringing their history to light and making reparations. We can’t erase the past, but we can learn from it.

In fact, we’d better.
