You’ve heard of therapy dogs that visit hospital patients to cheer and comfort them. But did you know there are comfort dogs that visit other scared dogs while they are sick and receiving treatment?
One vet’s comfort dog was captured in a touching image as he was spending time with another dog who was clearly sad and frightened to be there. The photo went viral and you can see why.

The photo was captioned,
“This veterinarian has a comfort dog assistant that helps sick dog patients know that everything will be alright.”
In the photo, a dog with an IV in one of his front legs is lying on a table. The patient looks pretty miserable. But he has a friend in there who reaches out with a paw and a boop on the nose.
It’s just about the sweetest, kindest moment between dogs the internet had seen in a long time. People couldn’t stop commenting on how emotional the photo was.
According to the American Kennel Club, the touch of a comfort, or therapy, dog boosts oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin in our brains, and can even strengthen our immunity systems. While not considered official service animals, they are trained to be around patients, bringing plenty of joy with them on their visits too.
And, as we can see in the viral photo, comfort dogs can do what they do best–provide comfort and joy–even for other dogs.
Did this just make your heart absolutely melt? Yeah it did.
