Being in the hospital is always boring at any age, but it can especially take a toll on young children. One creative dad, Kevin Gatlin, found a way to help children out: creating bed sheets that have board games on them.

He got the idea during a hospital visit to the child of one of his friends. Gatlin noticed that his friend’s wife played board games so the child could more easily fall asleep.

Gatlin then thought about how much easier it would be for children in hospitals to pass the time if they always had access to board games. The entrepreneur also drew from personal experience. Gatlin says he was at the hospital once when he was a child,

“I was in the hospital for about a week and I was bored to death.”

He quickly began working on his idea in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Two years later, Playtime Edventures was born with a simple idea: to provide bedsheets with educational board games for sick children in hospitals.

Gatlin even asked educators for input on educational board games that could help children have an easier time at the hospital. The entrepreneur says,

“We put together bedsheets and slumber bags that cover everything from Geography, Math, Science, Grammar, word find games, over-sized game boards… all on a three-piece set.”

What a creative and inspiring way to help children stay entertained during a difficult moment.
