In international super athlete news, a New Zealand man on a roller coaster snatches another rider’s cell phone out of mid-air. The whole cell phone ride-and-grab happened in Spain and was captured on video, where it went viral quickly. Samuel Kempf, of the New Zealand port city Timaru, is the man credited with having fast enough reflexes to fetch the flying phone.

So far the video of Kempf catching the phone while he’s being flung through space on the ride at 130 km an hour has racked up over 6.5 million views.

Kempf was visiting Spain with his family for the Fistballing World Championships when they decided to enjoy a day at Port Aventura theme park.

In the video, Kempf is having the time of his life on the ride when he sees the phone, reaches out and clutches it one-handed. We wonder if that is his fistballing hand.

Kemp told Stuff New Zealand, “The guy two rows ahead of me, as the ride started doing its ascent before it drops, he had his phone out and he dropped it and it just landed at the bottom of his cart.”

He explained he’d forgotten about the loose phone when he saw it fly his way after the first hill. He reached out and grabbed it before it went past.

Commenters were amazed at Kempf’s catch. If it wasn’t caught on video, it would be hard to believe such a mid-air save possible.

Kempf said he returned the phone to the gentleman who lost it and got a big hug in return.

And, no. We don’t know what fistballing is, but, evidently, you need lightening fast reflexes to play it.
