I know that many people in this world love running. It’s never been my thing personally, and now I can add waterfowl to the list of things that have completed a marathon before I have.

The New York City marathon is one of the most popular races around; hundreds of thousands of people have come from all over the world to compete over the years, and everyone has always been welcome.

Anyone who has ever done it will tell you that it takes a long time to train for an event like that, and you have to work even longer if you hope to one day challenge the frontrunners.

Which is perhaps why Wrinkle the duck has been running every day, working up to her first shot at the New York City marathon, since she was a wee duckling.

She’s been training, increasing her endurance (and probably searching for just the right pair of shoes) for a very long time – and in 2021, her day finally arrived.

Wrinkle is an American Pekin duck and is white with an orange beak and feet – totally adorable, if you ask me – but she doesn’t exactly look like running would be her forte.

But obviously, this is just one more lesson in not judging a book by its cover!

On Sunday, November 7, 2021, little Wrinkle threw her metaphorical hat in the ring and set off with the rest of the pack.

Wrinkle wasn’t technically a winner her first time out, but we think that – as a duck – just strapping on her shoes and hitting the pavement is a pretty big accomplishment.

I mean, let’s be honest – it’s more than I’m ever going to do.

Have you ever run the marathon Would you be offended if a duck waddled past you on the course? Let us know in the comments!
