Every now and then, you hear a story that completely and utterly restores your faith in love.

That’s certainly the case with this tale shared by Richard Farmer, a real estate agent who lives in San Marcos, California.

He was driving along when he saw a very elderly man with his thumb out, apparently trying to hitchhike a ride to the store.

What followed was an incredibly sweet encounter — in more than one way!

As you can see, Farmer even shared some sweet photos of Mike and his beloved Hershey bars. We hope he actually takes Farmer up on his offer next time, instead of walking and trying to hitchhike!

It’s so cute that Mike went out of his way to please his bride. It’s not totally clear why the man was hitchhiking, but I’m sure he had a good reason.

And sure, Farmer is a real estate agent who thrives on good publicity, but based on the comments, it seems like he’s just a genuinely good guy.

One commenter said she was waiting for the “punchline” and was just happy to read an authentically nice story:

Other commentators suggested getting in touch with Hershey directly!

And still others volunteered to drop off some chocolate bars for Mike and Doris.

We all respond differently when we see others who clearly need a little help. It’s so heartwarming to see Farmer’s reaction, which was to offer current and future help — and make a new friend in the process.

What’s the sweetest thing your grandparents do or used to do for each other?
