Remember when the children’s book “Go the F*ck to Sleep” came out in 2011 and promptly improved the lives of parents everywhere? Well, the illustrator of that book (and its sequel), Ricardo Cortés, has another book coming out, and this time it’s about weed.

“It’s Just a Plant” is a children’s book about marijuana. It follows the story of a young girl, who learns about the plant from various people in her life, including her parents, a police officer, a doctor, and a local farmer. Each offers her a different perspective on the plant.

Ricardo wrote the book for parents who want to educate their kids about marijuana. It can be tough to talk about, especially given its changing legal status. “It’s Just a Plant” helps parents discuss “the complexities of pot in a thoughtful and factual manner,” per the description.

The book’s website explains,

“Many parents have tried it, millions still use it, and some feel awkward about disclosing their history, for fear that it might encourage kids to experiment too.

Meanwhile, the “drug facts” children learn in school can be more frightening than educational, blaming pot for everything from teenage pregnancy to terrorism.

A child’s first awareness of drugs should come from a better source.”

After all, kids become aware of marijuana from a young age, whether through their parents or not.

Also, the book isn’t specifically for parents who partake; it’s for anyone who wants to broach these topics with their kids rather than leave them to figure it out themselves.

“It’s Just a Plant,” the 4th edition, comes out in April 2020.
